Job Description: Special Educator

Position Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Special Educator to work with children with developmental, learning, behavioural, and intellectual challenges. The Special Educator will assess children’s learning needs, prepare individualized education plans, conduct remedial and special education sessions, and work closely with parents and the multidisciplinary team to support the child’s overall development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct educational assessments to understand the child’s learning level, strengths, and areas of difficulty.
  • Prepare Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with short-term and long-term goals.
  • Provide one-on-one and group special education sessions for children with learning and developmental needs.
  • Support children with intellectual disability, learning difficulties, attention concerns, developmental delays, and academic challenges.
  • Work on reading, writing, comprehension, numeracy, attention, memory, problem-solving, and daily academic skills.
  • Use child-friendly teaching methods, visual aids, structured activities, and individualized learning materials.
  • Track each child’s progress and modify goals and activities based on improvement.
  • Conduct regular Parent-Therapist Meetings to explain progress, challenges, and home-based strategies.
  • Guide parents on how to support the child’s learning and independence at home.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Behaviour Therapists, and Psychologists for holistic intervention.
  • Maintain session records, progress notes, reports, and documentation.
  • Prepare progress reports and discharge/recommendation reports when required.

 Required qualifications

  1. B.Ed. in Special Education in any of the following specializations:
    • Intellectual Disability
    • Hearing Impairment
    • Learning Disability
    • Multiple Disabilities
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder
    • Or any other relevant RCI-recognized Special Education specialization
  2. RCI registration/certification is preferred.
  3. Prior experience in a child development center, school, special school, or rehabilitation setup will be an added advantage.

Skills Required

  • Good understanding of child development and special education methods.
  • Ability to handle children with patience, empathy, and sensitivity.
  • Strong observation and documentation skills.
  • Ability to create customized learning plans and teaching materials.
  • Good communication skills for parent interaction and team coordination.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Creative, structured, and child-centered approach to teaching.
  • Experience working with children with Autism, ADHD, developmental delays, intellectual disability, learning difficulties, speech delays, or behavioural concerns.
  • Experience in IEP planning, remedial education, parent guidance, and progress documentation.
