Bid Goodbye to Dark Underarms


Dark underarms are a cause for concern when wearing sleeveless dresses. A variety of factors like sweating, shaving, regular use of hair removal creams, use of deodorants and a building up of dead skin cells can cause the underarm skin to darken. The safest and most efficient way to lighten your underarms is to reach out for these home remedies, which are hiding in your kitchen waiting to be found.

Gram flour

Add a tablespoon each of yogurt and lemon juice to two tablespoons of gram flour and a pinch of turmeric. Make a paste and apply on the underarms for at least thirty minutes. Rinse with warm water.


Make a thick paste of sandalwood powder and rose water. Apply on the underarms and leave until dry. Rinse with cold water. This can be done everyday to get good results.

Baking soda

Another method to lighten the underarm skin is to combine baking soda and water. Spread this paste on the skin and wait till it dries. Wash with cold water. Do this thrice a week and notice the change.


Mix a tablespoon each of full fat milk, yogurt and gram flour. Make a thick paste and apply on the underarms. Rest for fifteen minutes and rinse with cold water. This pack can be used thrice a week.


Make a paste of rice flour and vinegar. Spread on the underarms and let it dry. Wash with warm water. Use this pack at least thrice a week.


Soak a few strands of saffron in milk for thirty minutes. Apply this milk to your underarms and leave it overnight. Wash off in the morning. A daily use will provide you with good results.


Another pack which can be used about thrice a week is a mix of yogurt and honey. Add two tablespoons of yogurt to a tablespoon of honey. Mix well and apply on the underarms. Rinse with cold water after it dries completely.


Take the juice out of a slice of potato and apply on the underarm. Leave it for fifteen minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. You may also rub the slice of potato on your underarm instead of using the juice. Do this twice a day for best results.


Take a lemon wedge and rub it on your underarms. Wash with lukewarm water after ten minutes and moisturize as lemon tends to dry the skin. Use at least thrice a week.


Use the juice or slice of a cucumber to whiten your dark underarms. Apply and leave for about fifteen minutes before washing with lukewarm water. This can be done twice a day.

Coconut oil

Massage your underarms with a few drops of coconut oil. Rinse using a mild soap with lukewarm water after fifteen minutes. This can be done twice a day for best results.

Vitamin E oil

Vitamin E oil with its beauty enhancing properties has the ability to lighten dark underarms. Massage daily for fifteen minutes to get good results.

Multiple oils

Take equal proportions of olive oil, jojoba oil, wheat germ oil and any citrus oil. Mix well and store if needed. Before application add a little water and mix once again. Spread on the underarms and leave for fifteen minutes. Wash with lukewarm water. Use daily to see the change.

Orange peels

Dried orange peels can be used as an excellent remedy to exfoliate your underarm skin. Grind dried orange peels into a fine powder and store in an airtight container. Before application, add equal amounts of rose water and milk to the orange peel powder. Spread this paste on your underarms, scrub for about ten minutes and rinse with cold water. Use this scrub at least thrice a week.

Sprinkle sugar on a piece of lemon and use it to scrub your underarms for about ten minutes. Wash with lukewarm water, pat dry and apply a moisturizer. Do this thrice a week to see the desired result.

Walnut or Peanut

Take a teaspoon of walnut or peanut powder and mix it with a teaspoon of honey and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply this paste on your underarms, scrub for about ten minutes and rinse with cold water. Use at least thrice a week.


Scrub your underarms with mashed apple for about 10 minutes and wash with cold water. Do this atleast thrice a week to get fairer underarms.
