TalkTools® Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) — Level 1 and 2 Trained

At TruHap Neuro-Development Center, we offer TalkTools® Oral Placement Therapy (OPT), a structured, evidence-informed approach that supports the development of the oral motor skills needed for feeding, speech production, and overall oral function. Using TalkTools’ systematic tool hierarchy and sensory-motor techniques, therapy focuses on building the strength, stability, awareness, and coordination of the jaw, lips, tongue, and respiratory system.

Oral Placement Therapy is individualized to each child’s needs and may be beneficial for children with feeding difficulties, delayed oral motor development, motor speech disorders, oral sensory challenges, and orofacial muscle dysfunction. Depending on the child’s assessment, therapy may address skills such as chewing, drinking from a straw or open cup, lip closure, tongue movement, speech sound production, and oral sensory regulation.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, TalkTools® Oral Placement Therapy is integrated into an individualized intervention plan and may be combined with Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, feeding therapy, and other multidisciplinary services to support meaningful improvements in communication, feeding, and everyday participation.

At TruHap Neuro-Development Center, our goal is to help every child develop safe, efficient, and functional oral motor skills that promote confident eating, clearer speech, and greater independence in daily life.

Developed by speech-language pathologist Dr. Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, OPT uses a structured hierarchy of hands-on tools bite blocks, horns, straws, and tactile cues to give children a tactile and proprioceptive layer of feedback alongside traditional auditory and visual speech instruction. This training qualifies him to assess oral-motor strength, control, and awareness, and to design individualized, hierarchy-based therapy plans supporting speech clarity, feeding skills, and safe swallowing in children with apraxia, low muscle tone, autism, and other developmental and sensory-motor needs.
