Some of the key ingredients to keep our brain strengthened and going on are essential fatty acids. Breast milk constitutes of 50% of this. These fundamental fats are not produced by our body and therefore need to be injested in the form of food. Two fatty acids that need to be taken daily are omega 3 and 6.

The intake of omega 6 has become twenty times more than what we used to consume in the past. Considering non-veg is easily available to us now-a-days and its intake has become low in vegetarians.

Omega 3 defiencies in children cause learning difficulties. Short-chain of omega 3 (supplements) can be given to a child to tackle the issue but long chain omegas are more enriched and preferred. (Long chain omega 3 is labeled as EPA and DHA)

A research conducted in, University of Gothenburg concluded that supplement of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may improve reading skills of mainstream schoolchildren, according to a new study. Children with attention problems, in particular, may be helped in their reading with the addition of these fatty acids.

Some researches also indicates that omega-3 supplements may help decrease ADHD symptoms in children. It proven to improve memory, attention, learning, impulsivity and hyperactivity in those with or without ADHD. Apart from these research, it has also proven to do the following:-
• Helps reduce asthma.
• Enhances brain health.
• Reduces sleep disturbances.
• Helps fight depression and anxiety.

Note: In 2009, WHO declared trans fat: TOXIC, adding that there is no safe level of consumption. In terms of mental health, trans fat are the opposite of essential fatty acids. They inhibit brain functions. It’s like clogging up the machinery.
