Let Them Do

What do I mean by letting them do?

Here is a case I took up once and let me explain what do I mean through this.

A Parent once approached me about her 5yr old kid, sighting behaviour issues and concentration issues. As a routine, when I was taking the case history,  for almost all the questions the answer was…. ” May be he can do, but I never let him do. I have to get things done quickly in the morning, so I prefer doing things for them.”

Now this mother had two kids 5 and 9 yrs old.

Starting from brushing, bathing, dressing up, feeding break fast, packing bag to school, everything the mother does for both the kids.

I couldn’t get a single response, where the mother could say *yes, he can do*

No doubt we are all busy, but it’s very important to teach our kids to get things done by themselves. Never doubt their ability. They are smarter than you and me. They just need little guidance. Be the parent who will guide, but not the one who will make them dependent and struggle to face the world when they grow up.
