Stress is a fact of life, but being stressed out is not. In day to day life, there are so many challenges like- family relations, work-life balance, health issues, homemaking responsibilities and not the least is your kid’s behaviour. No need to say there will be a lot of stress and one tries to get relieved from it by some means. Sometimes you may smack your child or shout and hide for petty things and regret later. When you keep losing your temper very often, your child’s development will have a negative impact. You can overcome stress by following certain rules and lead a happy, healthy and peaceful life.

  • Prioritize your tasks when there is too much to do and too little time in which to do it.
  • Be wise and practical in time management and organize your life to cut down on the stress of mistimed priorities. Clearing the messy countertop in your home can be overdue to taking the time to unplug and spend time with your family.
  • When that pile of papers or washbasin full of vessels is going to drive to fury and distress, take a break and play with your kid for some time. Surely you will come back in peace.
  • Try to laugh and smile talking to your kids or friends on phone. Smiling is a two-way mechanism which makes us relaxed and happy by transmitting nerve impulses from the facial muscles to the limbic system, a key emotional centre in the brain.
  • Trying to do everything is a one-way ticket to serious stress so stop trying to please everyone all the time.
  • Learn to say “No” to additional or unimportant requests when you are already loaded, maybe in a polite way saying ‘sorry’.
  • Seek and take help from the family when you need a break. Let your hubby and kiddo the household work at least one day in a month which may help them understand how coolly you are handling the things.
  • Switch off T.V and keep your mobiles away for some time every day and talk about something interesting to your kid, like his interests or about his friends.
  • Make time for yourself doing some exercise like going for a walk or listening to light music.
  • The more stressed out we are, the more vulnerable we are to colds, flu, and a host of chronic or life-threatening illnesses—and the less open we are to the beauty and pleasure of life.
  • Organized religion may be losing members, but prayer is very popular than anything else.
  • Spend a few minutes thanking God for your home, family, and job.
  • If you are feeling stressed and anxious all the time, seek some outside advice from a counsellor.
