What causes dandruff?
Poor shampooing or brushing habits, a bad diet, stress or dry skin are some popular causes of dandruff. However, what is important to know here is that dandruff is a common skin problem and isn’t very serious. So, you can always cure it by treating it at home with some simple home remedies.
1. Coconut Oil & Lemon Massage
Coconut oil is great nourishment for the scalp and the hair and lemon juice serves as a cleanser. Just heat some coconut oil and mix an equal amount of lemon juice in it. Now, massage this onto your scalp. Keep it for 20 minutes and rinse off with shampoo.
2. Fenugreek Pack
Take some fenugreek or methi seeds and soak them in water overnight. The next day, make a paste out of the seeds. Apply it on your scalp and let it sit for about an hour. Wash off with a mild shampoo.
3. Curd or Yoghurt
Yoghurt or curd is a very well-known home remedy for dandruff, albeit a tad messy. Apply some curd on your scalp. Leave it for an hour and wash off with a mild shampoo.
4. Baking Soda
The sodium bicarbonate in baking soda is an excellent cleanser. It works well in cleansing your scalp. Wet your hair and apply baking soda liberally on your scalp. Wait for 60-90 seconds before you rinse your hair. Don’t apply any shampoo afterward. Baking soda is an alternative to shampoo.
5. Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is an effective fighter of dandruff. You can either put it in your shampoo and apply it on your scalp or mix it with some water and spread it on your scalp and then wash off with shampoo.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV is a popular home remedy for many problems, including dandruff and hair fall. Mix equal parts of ACV and water and set it aside. Now, after you’re done washing your hair, apply this mixture on your hair and massage it. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse off.
7. Henna or Mehndi
Mehndi or henna is a well-known conditioner and it also fights dandruff. Mix some of it with tea liquor, curd and some lemon juice and leave this mixture for eight hours. Now, apply it on your scalp and leave it for a couple of hours before you wash off.
8. Neem Juice
Neem has antibacterial properties that make it a popular ingredient in both face and hair masks. Grind some neem leaves in a food processor to make a paste. Apply it on your scalp and leave for at least an hour. Wash it off with water.
9. Multani Mitti Hair Pack
Multani Mitti or Fuller’s Earth is great for skin and hair. Make a paste of it with lemon juice. Apply it on your scalp and leave for 20 minutes before you wash it off with water.
10. Orange Peel Pack
Orange peel mixed with lemon juice and made into a paste works as a brilliant hair cleanser and dandruff remedy as well.
