Trying to conceive can be easy for some while difficult for others. If you have been trying to conceive without success, do not lose hope. Try these great home remedies and make a few lifestyle changes to improve your fertility and give birth to a healthy baby.

Olive oil

Increase your chance of getting pregnant by simply consuming 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil everyday. The monounsaturated fat present in olive oil boosts reproductive health and is beneficial during fertility treatment. Extra virgin olive oil could also be used for cooking and to make great salads.

Pomegranate

This fertility booster increases blood flow to the uterus and improves sperm quality in men. It also promotes healthy development of the foetus. Store equal amounts of powdered pomegranate seeds and bark in an airtight jar. Mix half a teaspoon of this powder in a glass of warm water and drink twice daily. You could also choose to drink a glass of pomegranate juice instead.

Dates

Ayurveda makes use of dates to improve fertility as they are rich in fertility friendly vitamins and minerals. De-seed 10 to 12 dates and grind them with coriander root to form a smooth paste. Add 3/4th cup of cow’s milk to this paste and boil well. Drink this once daily for seven days from the date of your last period.

Apple cider vinegar

Though acidic in nature, apple cider vinegar aids in maintaining an alkaline pH in your saliva and vagina thereby making conception easier. Apple cider vinegar also balances hormones, helps to treat candida and removes toxins from the body. Mix 2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and a small amount of raw honey in a glass of water and drink twice daily. Add a cup of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to your bathwater. Soak in this water for thirty minutes before going to bed.

Folic acid

Take folic acid both before and during pregnancy to facilitate cell division and improve ovulation. Eat foods like dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, avocado, raisins, beans and lentils to get your share of folic acid. You could also choose to consume folic acid supplements according to your doctor’s advice.

Vitamin D

Make the sun your friend to have a healthy baby as vitamin D deficiency may lead to infertility and miscarriage. Expose your body to early morning sunlight for about 10 minutes everyday. Also, do not forget to consume foods rich in vitamin D like salmon, cheese, mushrooms and egg yolks. It would also be desirable to get your vitamin D levels checked before planning to conceive.

Manage stress

Learning to manage stress is extremely important as too much stress can adversely affect fertility. Engage in relaxation techniques like meditation, massage therapy, acupuncture, reading self help books and listening to soft music to keep stress under control.

Be physically active

Engage in regular physical activity like walking, yoga, jogging or swimming to maintain optimum reproductive health. Avoid intense aerobic activity as it may prevent ovulation and affect progesterone production.

Additional tips

  • A healthy weight is necessary for better fertility. Being overweight or underweight can affect your chance of conception.

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Quit smoking to improve fertility and have a healthy baby.

  • Do not use lubricants during intercourse, as they may minimise your chance of getting pregnant.

  • Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink a good amount of water to flush out toxins.

  • Get enough sleep as a poor sleep pattern can lower your chance of conceiving.

  • If you are diabetic, keep your blood sugar level under control. Consult your doctor before taking any medicines or supplements.
