Dr. Srilatha, who grew up around doctors knew for a long time that she too wanted to be one. Once she completed her MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, she went on to do her MD in Paediatrics from Kasturba Medical College in Manipal University where she published a very informative thesis on 'Foreign body aspiration in children'. This was seven years ago.
Today, she is a leading doctor in the field of Paediatrics and works at Nice Hospital near Masab Tank. She also runs her own clinic called 'Latha Children's Clinic'. She believes that one's work should for speak for oneself and hence does little or no publicity for her clinic. Her motivating factor is the innocent smile of a child who's been told that he/she is going to be okay. This was also one of the main reasons why she chose to be a paediatrician in the first place.
Dr. Srilatha also believes in standing up for her community. Of late, doctors have been protested against and there is a general feeling of mistrust against the medical community. She wants to change that. She believes that trust is the biggest contributor to forging healthy relationships between doctors and their patients and that, it must be rebuilt. Her clinical practice is all about being a friend to her patients rather than just a doctor.
She also urges parents to take better care of their children to avoid frequent visits to the doctors. Junk food and sweetened beverages are a no-no. She says parents should spend quality time with their kids and gadgets must be put aside.
